Katya Richardson

Katya has experience assisting clients in a variety of family law and estate litigation matters. She obtained her Juris Doctor from Western University in London, Ontario.

During her time at Western Law, Katya completed a summer internship program at the Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women in Bangkok, Thailand, where she performed legal research and helped organize an international workshop for legal aid clinics assisting victims of trafficking.

During law school, Katya also volunteered at a legal aid clinic in southern Ontario where she wrote legal submissions for clients and successfully appealed a decision at the Social Benefits Tribunal. After graduating, Katya moved to Vancouver, where she articled at a downtown Vancouver firm, primarily in the areas of family and estate law. She was called to the BC bar in 2018.

Katya continues to practice in family law and estate litigation. She has had success in obtaining various interim family law orders for clients, including protection orders, orders for exclusive occupancy of the family home, spousal and child support, parenting time and parental decision-making, and interim distributions of family assets. She has also resolved numerous family and estate cases by way of mediation and arbitration, saving her clients money and reducing conflict between family members.

Katya takes an empathetic approach to working with her clients, recognizing that each client will likely have particular needs, whether that be clients with a physical disability or clients who are neurodivergent, clients who may be suffering from PTSD from past relationships or who are fearful of their current partners. It may also involve working with clients who wish to be more actively involved in working on their own case, including offering unbundled service options.

Katya is known for her practical approach to problem-solving and aims to provide clients with the best information, so they feel empowered to make informed decisions for themselves.

She is motivated by the positive outcomes she has seen the legal system can have in improving the quality of her clients’ lives. During her free time, Katya enjoys working out at the gym, hiking, and
reading.
