Fort Langley Asset Division Lawyers

Asset Division

At our firm, our family lawyers have experience in dividing assets during the divorce process. We work to ensure that you receive what you are rightfully owed. Dividing property can be a complex process, but by thoroughly evaluating what each party owns individually and jointly, we can work towards a fair outcome. In Fort Langley, British Columbia it is especially important to consider the historical value of pre-owned property when determining the distribution of assets following a separation.

Child support lawyers in Fort Langley

Child Support

Our Fort Langley Family Law and child support lawyers can help you protect your child’s right to adequate financial support. It is widely accepted that children are entitled to have the financial resources of both parents available to support them as they grow and develop. While there are many online resources that can provide an estimate of the basic monthly child support obligation under the Federal Child Support Guidelines, our lawyers can help you navigate the process and ensure that your child’s rights are protected.

Spousal Support

With a wealth of experience in Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines, we can provide clear, easy-to-understand advice about how spousal support will affect your life after separation. Our team is dedicated to helping you navigate this complex area of law and achieve a favourable outcome for your situation.

Premarital and Cohabitation Agreements

Our Fort Langley lawyers can help you determine if a premarital or cohabitation agreement is the right choice for you. These agreements are useful for outlining financial expectations in the event of unforeseen circumstances, such as separation or divorce. Every couple has different needs, so it’s worth considering the benefits of having a written agreement in place. Rather than asking “do I need an agreement?”, you may want to consider “why wouldn’t I have an agreement?”

Fort Langley family matters, served from New Westminster

Fort Langley is a roughly 35-minute drive east of our New Westminster office at 26 Fourth Street, past Glover Road and the old fort on the river. Onyx Law Group has no office in the village, so we handle Fort Langley family and divorce matters out of New Westminster, in person or remotely depending on what works for the family.

Family files for the area are generally opened at the New Westminster Supreme Court registry, since the Township of Langley has none of its own. When children are involved, the Family Law Act frames the discussion around guardianship, parental responsibilities, and parenting time rather than the older language of custody and access. Every decision turns on one test, the best interests of the child, and the Act lists the factors a court weighs, from the child’s needs to the history of who has cared for them. Parents can settle these arrangements by agreement or, if they can’t agree, ask the court to decide.
