White Rock Asset Division Lawyers

Asset Division

At our firm, our family lawyers have experience in dividing assets during the divorce process. We work to ensure that you receive what you are rightfully owed. Dividing property can be a complex process, but by thoroughly evaluating what each party owns individually and jointly, we can work towards a fair outcome. In White Rock, British Columbia it is especially important to consider the historical value of pre-owned property when determining the distribution of assets following a separation.

Child support lawyers in White Rock

Child Support

Our White Rock Family Law and child support lawyers can help you protect your child’s right to adequate financial support. It is widely accepted that children are entitled to have the financial resources of both parents available to support them as they grow and develop. While there are many online resources that can provide an estimate of the basic monthly child support obligation under the Federal Child Support Guidelines, our lawyers can help you navigate the process and ensure that your child’s rights are protected.

Spousal Support

With a wealth of experience in Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines, we can provide clear, easy-to-understand advice about how spousal support will affect your life after separation. Our team is dedicated to helping you navigate this complex area of law and achieve a favourable outcome for your situation.

Co-Parenting Responsibilities

We are dedicated to safeguarding children from the harmful consequences of divorce and will collaborate with child experts, physicians, and therapists to ensure that your perspective and your child’s perspective are considered during this highly emotional process.

Premarital and Cohabitation Agreements

Our White Rock lawyers can help you determine if a premarital or cohabitation agreement is the right choice for you. These agreements are useful for outlining financial expectations in the event of unforeseen circumstances, such as separation or divorce. Every couple has different needs, so it’s worth considering the benefits of having a written agreement in place. Rather than asking “do I need an agreement?”, you may want to consider “why wouldn’t I have an agreement?”

White Rock divorce and family help from New Westminster

White Rock looks out over Semiahmoo Bay at the southern edge of Surrey, a roughly 35-minute drive up Highway 99 to our New Westminster office at 26 Fourth Street. Onyx Law Group keeps no White Rock office, so we meet clients from the area in New Westminster or handle their family matters remotely when that’s less disruptive.

Since Surrey has no Supreme Court registry, White Rock family files are usually opened at the New Westminster Supreme Court registry. One issue that surfaces often near a bayside community is relocation, where a parent wants to move with a child after separation. The Family Law Act sets out a specific process: a guardian who plans to relocate generally has to give the child’s other guardians 60 days’ written notice, and if someone objects, the court looks at whether the move is proposed in good faith and how it affects the child’s relationships. Unmarried partners who lived together two years share property rights here too, the same as married spouses.
