Dunbar Asset Division Lawyers

Asset Division

At our firm, our Dunbar divorce lawyers have experience in dividing assets during the divorce process. We work to ensure that you receive what you are rightfully owed. Dividing property can be a complex process, but by thoroughly evaluating what each party owns individually and jointly, we can work towards a fair outcome. In Dunbar, British Columbia it is especially important to consider the historical value of pre-owned property when determining the distribution of assets following a separation.

If a divorce order is needed, we can help you navigate the process.

Child support lawyers in Dunbar

Child Support

Our Dunbar Family Law and child support lawyers can help you protect your child’s right to adequate financial support. It is widely accepted that children are entitled to have the financial resources of both parents available to support them as they grow and develop. While there are many online resources that can provide an estimate of the basic monthly child support obligation under the Federal Child Support Guidelines, our lawyers can help you navigate the process and ensure that your child’s rights are protected.

Spousal Support

With a wealth of experience in Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines, we can provide clear, easy-to-understand advice about how spousal support will affect your life after separation. Our team of Dunbar divorce lawyers is dedicated to helping you navigate this complex area of law and achieve a favourable outcome for your situation.

Co-Parenting Responsibilities

Premarital and Cohabitation Agreements

Our Dunbar divorce lawyers can help you determine if a premarital or cohabitation agreement is the right choice for you. These agreements are useful for outlining financial expectations in the event of unforeseen circumstances, such as separation or divorce. Every couple has different needs, so it’s worth considering the benefits of having a written agreement in place. Rather than asking “do I need an agreement?”, you may want to consider “why wouldn’t I have an agreement?”

Dunbar divorce help from our Kerrisdale office

Dunbar sits on the west side between Dunbar Street and Pacific Spirit Park. Our nearest office is in Kerrisdale at Suite 201, 5455 West Boulevard, under ten minutes east along West 41st Avenue. We meet Dunbar clients there; we don’t run an office in the neighbourhood itself.

When a Dunbar couple separates, property is divided under Part 5 of the Family Law Act. The starting point is blunt: family property — what the two of you built during the relationship — is split equally, whoever’s name is on the title, and debts are shared the same way. What each person brought into the relationship is treated differently, which is where most disagreements start. We work out what counts as family property, value it, and negotiate or litigate the split at the BC Supreme Court, 800 Smithe Street.
