Fort Langley estate help, handled from New Westminster

Fort Langley is about a 35-minute drive east of our New Westminster office at 26 Fourth Street, out past the heritage shops on Glover Road and the national historic site by the Fraser River. Onyx Law Group has no office in the village itself, so we handle Fort Langley estate matters from New Westminster and, when a trip in isn’t practical, over the phone or by video.

The Township of Langley doesn’t have its own Supreme Court registry, so estate files for Fort Langley are generally opened at the New Westminster Supreme Court registry. One part of the Wills, Estates and Succession Act that catches people off guard is the wills variation claim. A spouse or a child who feels a will didn’t provide for them fairly can ask the court to change how the estate is divided, but the clock is short: the claim has to be filed within 180 days of the date probate is granted. Miss that window and the option usually closes.
