Estate law isn’t just about paperwork; it’s about protecting the people and property that matter most to you. Whether you’re writing your first will or resolving conflicts after a loved one’s passing, working with a Langley estate lawyer ensures your wishes are clear, your assets are secure, and your loved ones aren’t left navigating unnecessary legal stress.

Estate planning helps you organize your financial, healthcare, and property affairs well in advance. That means no guesswork, no family dispute, and no surprises. Whether it’s preparing an enduring power of attorney for business decisions or ensuring someone you trust has the power of attorney to handle health decisions, proactive planning means your voice continues to be heard – even in the most difficult times.

Additionally, when estate disputes do arise – because let’s face it, family dynamics can get complicated – having an experienced lawyer by your side can be the difference between a costly court battle and a smooth resolution. Our Langley estate law services are tailored to your unique situation, whether you’re seeking estate legal advice in Langley or need help defending a will.

Our Estate Law Legal Services in Langley

Our Estate Law Legal Services in Langley

Estate law touches so many aspects of life: your family, your assets, your business, even your wishes for the future. That’s why our team takes a comprehensive, compassionate approach to every matter we handle.

Wills and Estate Planning

When it comes to wills and estate planning, we do more than just draft documents. We help you design a plan that reflects your values, your relationships, and your long-term goals. That includes writing legally valid wills, preparing powers of attorney for financial and health care decisions, and structuring trusts to help minimize taxes and safeguard wealth for the next generation.

Probate and Estate Administration

For those navigating probate and estate administration, we know how hard it is to handle legal responsibilities while grieving. We assist executors through the full probate process, help interpret and carry out the terms of the will, and offer guidance when the law isn’t clear or conflicts arise. Our role is to support, simplify, and ensure that every step follows BC’s legal requirements.

Estate Litigation and Dispute Resolution

In estate litigation and dispute resolution, we’re ready when things get complex. If you need to contest a will, defend against a claim, or resolve tensions between heirs and beneficiaries, our lawyers bring years of experience in BC’s courts and a steady hand in delicate situations. We also assist with disputes involving executor misconduct, trust management, or the misuse of powers granted under a power of attorney.

Regardless of your specific needs, we bring calm to the chaos and provide practical solutions to emotionally charged moments.

What Sets Our Estate Lawyers in Langley Apart

For starters, we’re deeply rooted in the Langley and Lower Mainland community. We’ve spent years representing clients in local courts and navigating the unique legal landscape of British Columbia. That local experience matters – it means we know the rules, the judges, and the unwritten expectations.

Our team believes every estate situation deserves a tailored approach. That’s why we take the time to understand not just the legal facts but also the human story behind them. Your family, your wishes, and your long-term peace of mind guide everything we do.

We also prioritize clear and transparent communication with our clients. Estate matters are already complex, and we don’t believe your legal advice should be. We’ll explain every step, outline your options, and answer your questions in plain language. Additionally, our goal is to make sure you always feel confident and supported, whether you’re making plans or resolving a conflict.

Add to that our strong record of success, strategic thinking, and unwavering commitment to client care, and you’ll see why so many families in Langley trust us with their most important decisions.

How the Estate Planning Process Works

It all starts with your initial consultation, where we learn more about your life, your concerns, and what you’d like to accomplish. Whether you’re thinking ahead or managing an estate in real time, this initial consultation is where the roadmap begins.

Next, we assess your estate, your personal circumstances, and any existing documents. We’ll talk about your assets, your property, and who you’d like to appoint for roles like executor or lawyer. We’ll also look at how to safeguard your business, minimize taxes, and ensure your healthcare and financial choices are honored, especially if you can’t speak for yourself.

Once we have a clear picture, we draft the estate documents – wills, powers of attorney, representation agreements, and more. We’ll walk you through everything to ensure it reflects your wishes and complies with BC law.

Finally, we handle the execution of your documents and keep everything securely stored. We don’t just disappear after that. Life changes, and so should your estate plan. We recommend periodic reviews, especially after major life events like marriage, divorce, or the birth of a child.

Let us be your trusted partner during significant life transitions such as estate planning and administration. Whether you’re planning your legacy or navigating a complex estate, we’re here to help every step of the way.

Book your free 30-minute consultation today with Onyx Law Group and take the first step toward clarity and confidence.

Onyx Law Group acts for Langley estate clients from our New Westminster office on Fourth Street; while Langley has a Provincial Court on Glover Road, Supreme Court probate and wills-variation work is filed at the New Westminster Law Courts.

Frequently Asked Questions

With years of experience in wills and estates, our team has the knowledge to guide you through even the most complex estate matters. Here are answers to some of the most common questions we hear from clients in Langley.

How Much Does It Cost to Hire an Estate Lawyer in Langley?

Fees can vary depending on the complexity of your situation. Simple wills and planning documents are generally affordable, while estate litigation or trust disputes can be more involved. During your free consultation, we’ll provide a transparent breakdown so there are no surprises.

What Happens if Someone Dies Without a Will in BC?

If someone passes away without a valid will, their estate is distributed according to BC’s intestacy laws. That often leads to confusion, delays, and family disagreements – especially in blended families. It’s a strong reminder of why early planning matters.

How Long Does the Probate Process Take in Langley?

It depends. A straightforward estate may go through probate in 4–6 months, while complex cases or contested wills can take much longer. We can help you speed things up by ensuring the right forms are filed and all legal requirements are met.

Can a Will Be Contested in British Columbia?

Yes. Common reasons include lack of capacity, undue influence, or unfair distribution among family members. If you believe a will doesn’t reflect the true intentions of the deceased, or if you’re defending a valid one, we’re here to assist.

How to Choose the Right Estate Lawyer in Langley

Look for experience, communication, and a team that makes you feel heard. You want someone who is not only well-versed in the law, but also genuinely cares. They should value your family, your future, and your peace of mind.

Langley Estates and the New Westminster Registry

Langley has its own Provincial Court on Glover Road, but Supreme Court estate work, probate, wills variation, and executor or trustee disputes, is filed at the New Westminster Law Courts. For Township and City of Langley families, New Westminster is the nearest registry that handles these applications. Our office there, on Fourth Street, is the closest of our three locations for Langley clients and sits minutes from the courthouse. Most estate administration is done remotely, so the drive only matters if a claim is contested and a hearing is set.
